CONCUSSION.

This word is in everyone’s vocabulary these days. From the professionals . . . down to the littlest of players . . . coaches, parents and athletes are becoming more aware of its symptoms, its management and its effects.

ATI Sports Medicine doesn’t treat this word lightly!

As part of its annual “Kick-Off Week”, our Sports Medicine team spent an entire day with neuropsychologist Dr. Jonathon French, PsyD. from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Sports Medicine Concussion Program. Dr. French is a renowned expert in the field of concussion management and the ImPACT® computerized concussion evaluation system. Our athletic trainers received education on the latest research in concussion management, and the utilization of the ImPACT® system.

What is ImPACT®?

Developed by clinical experts who pioneered the field, ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the most-widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. ImPACT provides trained clinicians with neurocognitive assessment tools and services that have been medically accepted as state-of-the-art best practices — as part of determining safe return to play decisions. This system is utilized many teams in MLB, NHL, NFL and WWE (www.impacttest.com).

“The large percentage of our schools, teams and clubs utilize ImPACT® for the assessment and management of concussions,” says Jen Robbins, Sports Medicine Supervisor. “Offering this extended training on concussion management to our athletic trainers is crucial. It ensures that our team has the latest information, utilizes the latest technology via ImPACT® and is prepared for any situation.”
