Kathy Groves
In September 2013, Kathy was run over by a 350 lb motorcycle. Having not felt the same since the accident, she came to ATI in February 2016. After finishing treatment in January 2017, she feels like she has her life back.
Last chance work out. Kathy was a healthy 53 year old, actively involved in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Search and Rescue putting in 400 hours of patrol on Lake Michigan, boxing at Glen Hudson’s gym, riding her motorcycle, playing drums, boating, kite surfing, water skiing and so much more. She traveled for Harley Davidson across the country to different dealerships, motorcycle coaching for an Indiana Harley Davidson and two Illinois HD dealerships, Cook County, and for the Illinois Motorcycle Safety Project.
Back in September 2013, Kathy was run over by a 350 lb motorcycle while she was coaching a class of 12 students. "From the moment I woke up on that pavement I have not felt the same since," Kathy said, "My life changed forever and only in an instance." For the past three and a half years, Kathy struggled with depression, pain throughout her body, and lack of sleep. After all of that time, multiple doctors' appointments, and surgeries with lasting scars, she ended up at the doors of ATI in February 2016. Kathy attended therapy three days per week and started our F.I.R.S.T. Work Conditioning program on December 9,2016.
"Since walking through the doors of ATI, they have given me hope and, once again, my life has changed. I talk about the incredible people who make up this staff all of the time. Now, when my mother needed physical therapy after back surgery, she knew to choose ATI," said Kathy, "I cannot say enough about the ATI team on 96th and Western in Chicago. The facility is clean and always ready to be used. I enjoy the different fundraisers and activities they have each week and the thousands of workout exercises and equipment available to me. My therapist, Sarah, knows how to keep me enthused and active in my workouts and there's never a chance for boredom. I will always remember Sarah and the others at ATI when I finish my treatment in January 2017. They have become an integral part of my life. But, this is what they guided me towards – returning to life! From the bottom of my heart I appreciate each and every one who has helped me and been positive throughout my recovery. Thank you ATI."
