On Saturday, June 21 2014, ATI Physical Therapy will be sponsoring the 3rd annual Metal Walk. The Metal Walk celebrates movement for those who have joint replacements or orthopedic implants. For those who have received a total hip replacement, Heidi Wulff Plumb Graham, clinic director for ATI Physical Therapy in Norridge IL, demonstrates 4 exercises to help get you back to your normal schedule after surgery.
Description:
Marching
- Lay on your back having your knees bent.
- Lift your hip up to a 90 degree angle, and alternate both sides. 10 reps, two to three times.
Bridge
- While laying on your back, lift your hips up to the ceiling and bring them back down.
- Do this 10 times, two to three reps.
Clams
-Lay on your side, with your knees bent
- Keep your feet together, but lift your knee up to the ceiling
- Do this for both side, 10 times two to three reps
Hamstring/Hip exercise
-Can be done while laying on your stomach, or while standing.
-Bend your knee, bringing your heel toward your buttocks, hold for a couple seconds and bring it back down.
-Do this for 10 reps, two to three times.
