Editors Note: We are kicking off National Physical Therapy Month with a post authored by Efosa L. Guobadia, DPT, a physical therapist at our Avondale, Illinois clinic who is currently serving as the Illinois Physical Therapy Association Early Career Physical Therapist Liaison.
In June 2013, after months of feedback from members and an intense weekend of discussion at the House of Delegates Assembly, the APTA declared a new vision for our profession:
"Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience."
The beauty of this statement is the outward challenge to make our communities a more able place, while remembering to continue to inwardly strengthen and build on our values and history. A history that has evolved but has always focused on improving movement and function.
It is now up to all PT's and PTA's in all settings and in all stages of their careers to grab onto this moment and this movement. I believe if we truly come together and hitch ourselves to this vision we be able to fulfill our true potential and play our part in making this world a more able place. Let's do it together and let's see this Vision through.
In honor of National Physical Therapy Month, ATI Mission Works is organizing a supply drive at all ATI clinics. All equipment will be sent overseas to Latin American countries, including Peru and Guatemala. We are collecting crutches; slings; braces, walkers; wheelchairs; shoes and other similar items.
