What Is Isokinetic Dynamometry?
ATI Physical Therapy offers this unique service involving isokinetic dynamometer technology that provides clinicians with more options during the evaluation and treatment of patients by measuring the performance of different muscle groups.
ATI uses Kin Com® isokinetic dynamometers, exclusively available in our Chattanooga region. An isokinetic dynamometer is typically found in upscale athletic training rooms for athletes at the collegiate and professional level. Complex applications enable a wide range of sensitive force measurements for numerous angles and speeds. Clinicians can program a sequence of test and exercise modes that target all of the body’s peripheral joints. Measurements may include strength, torque, resistance and fatigue.
Benefits of Isokinetic Testing
Isokinetic testing is beneficial to many patients, including:
- Patients with strength deficits involving the ankle, knee, elbow and shoulder
- Athletes returning to play
- Employees returning to work
- Post-surgical patients
Treatment Options Following Isokinetic Testing
Incorporating isokinetics into a patient’s treatment plan gives clinicians the ability to provide physicians with quantitative data regarding a patient’s strength deficits and/or improvement.
By controlling the level of resistance and number of repetitions, isokinetic testing acts as a valuable tool for patients with various diagnoses, including:
- Patellar tendinitis
- Rotator cuff impingement
- Epicondylitis
- Ankle sprains
