You bought the ergonomic palm rest, but you’re still feeling pain in your arm, shoulder and neck. Having the right tools won’t be of much help unless you’re using the proper body mechanics.

Elizabeth Crim, On-site Early Intervention Specialist with ATI Worksite Solutions, provides a few mouse mechanics to help reduce risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Incorrect Use:

  • Resting the majority of your wrist on the palm rest.
  • Moving the mouse with your wrist
  • Avoid mousing with an outstretched arm or away from the midline of your workstation

Correct Use:

  • Rest your palm on the palm rest.
  • Use your shoulder to move the mouse.
  • Mouse within your comfort zone.
  • Mouse with your elbow slightly bent and next to your keyboard.

ATI Worksite Solution’s Certified Early Intervention Specialists observe and coach employees at their work site to correct the root causes of the discomfort while providing education on safe body mechanics and posture. Contact ATI Worksite Solutions.
