The New Year is here which means it’s time to make those resolutions. Sure, maybe we made some resolutions last year that we didn’t exactly keep, but that’s okay! Resolutions are an opportunity for us to decide what we will improve upon from last year and how we will better ourselves this year. They provide us with the hope of accomplishing a goal that we set for ourselves.
According to a Nielsen poll taken at the beginning of 2015, the top 5 New Year’s Resolutions were:
- Stay Fit and Healthy
- Lose Weight
- Enjoy Life to the Fullest
- Spend Less, Save More
- Spend More Time with Family and Friends
These are all great resolutions and can certainly be brought forward into the New Year.
Here are 4 more New Year’s Resolutions to think about adding for 2016:
- Sleep 7-9 Hours Each Night – Lack of sleep can lead to poor health and it even rivals obesity and smoking as a public health crisis. If getting or staying fit and healthy is on our list for 2016, adding a good night’s sleep will only make us healthier.
- Cook at Home More Often – Eating out less will not only help us save money, but it will help us be healthier and spend more time with family. When we go out, we tend to pay more for the same meal that we could make at home. On top of that, we don’t necessarily know every ingredient used and how the meal is being prepared.
- Put the Phone Down – We’ve all seen it or maybe even done it. We’re sitting at a table with friends or family on our phones texting someone who isn’t there or checking Facebook. Enjoy the presence of those you’re with at the moment. Everything else can wait.
- See the Doctor – To stay healthy, we need to have our semi-annual and annual exams. This will allow our physicians to evaluate our overall health and provide any recommendations to keep us healthy in the long run.
