“What’s a Metal Walk?”
That’s a great question!
The ATI Foundation coined the name in 2012 when the inaugural Metal Walk took place at Soldier Field in Chicago. The 1K route was dedicated to those who had overcome physical limitations by undergoing surgery for joint replacement or other orthopedic implants. The tradition will continue this year at the Annual Metal Walk & Fun Run on June 21! A giant “metal detector” will adorn the start line, where hundreds of those with metal in their bodies, and their supporting friends and family members, will walk to celebrate movement and their return to an active lifestyle.
This year’s event, which is combined with a family friendly 5K Fun Run, has a dual purpose. These walkers will also be raising money to support the mission of the ATI Foundation: To help children with physical impairments in need of medical resources and funding, to enhance and sustain a better quality of life.
Check out this video to hear first-hand from past Metal Walkers on what the walk means to them, and why they are looking forward to this year’s event.
