It all started with a Razor scooter.

This past summer, Randy Rudy was at the beach playing with his grandson when he decided to hop his grandson’s Razor scooter and go down a ramp. Unfortunately, the ramp got the best of him, and he crashed to the bottom, tearing his right shoulder.

“The tear was so severe, the doctor actually had to put four anchors in to repair it,” Randy says. “I had a rotator cuff repair done on my left shoulder in the 80s, so I knew there was a lot of pain and hard work ahead.”

After undergoing surgery with Dr. Mark Pfaff, Randy began physical therapy with Mike Piercey at ATI Physical Therapy in Elkton, MD. With Mike’s help, he began the recovery process.

“Mike worked me hard, but it was always fun,” says Randy. “He was very open with me and always bantered with me as I was in therapy. He made it enjoyable.”

For the next three months, he met with the Elkton team to work on his right shoulder. Randy’s positive attitude and the upbeat atmosphere at ATI carried him through tough physical therapy sessions, and now, he says he’s as good as new.

“I am just totally satisfied with how this thing worked out,” Randy says. “I thought I’d have limitations, but I don’t. My shoulder is back to 100 percent, and there’s nothing I can’t do.”

Aside from a healed shoulder, Randy notes that he enjoyed physical therapy at ATI because of the people he had the opportunity to interact with.

“The folks that work there are so encouraging,” he says. “No one ever seemed like they were having a down day, so I didn’t either.”
