Erin is almost six years old and she had a series of strokes shortly after birth. She has cortical vision impairment, epilepsy, she also has cerebral palsy. It was because of her swim therapist that after she made the suggestion that we would benefit from swim therapy for Erin. She told me about the ATI Foundation and the difference they've made in the lives of others, helping with things that aren't covered by insurance and that still make a difference in the mobility of people.
The ATI Foundation partners with another group called the Mulliganeers and we have helped purchased a swimming pool that will be installed at their house in July. It's one of those self propelled pools, that will allow her to do her aquatic therapy everyday. Hopefully as the years progress, four steps turns into walking. For somebody that they said who would never walk at all, she's already halfway there. Let's give her another round of applause.
"There you go! Oh, there we go. Good. Okay, what if I hold this arm? You got to use 'lefty.' Now you've got to use the left side. Oh, good!"
Today we're just working on some things we like to work on for therapy for her, that build her core, and help her with sustain head control. She works with Wendy every week and whatever they work on in swim therapy, then we're able to follow through daily. She's able to sustain head control for minutes at a time, where we were lucky to get a minute prior. We've only been doing this for six weeks, and it's been a huge improvement.
Together with ATI Foundation and the Mulliganeers it made our dreams come true.
