Safety Tips to Avoiding Fireworks-Related Injuries this Fourth of July
The fridge is stocked, charcoal on the grill and fireworks in queue, but there’s one thing thousands of Fourth of July-goers don’t plan for – a visit to the emergency room. According to the latest U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission report, fireworks sent roughly 11,000 people to the emergency room over the course of the Fourth of July holiday. Of these injuries, approximately 36 percent were to the hand, thumb and digits. Interesting enough, 40% of the injuries are caused by fireworks that were thought to be somewhat safe such as sparklers and firecrackers.
If you plan to incorporate fireworks into your holiday festivities, be responsible. The consequences of improperly handling and using fireworks far outweigh the rewards. By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to a holiday of good, safe fun. Or better yet, leave the fireworks in the hands of professionals.
The potential long-term severity of fireworks-related injuries can have undesirable outcomes to your body, so remember to enjoy your holiday safely and responsibly and don’t take any unnecessary risks.
